Be Kind to Yourself

Stacy Menzies Happy FixIf you are on this page, you put a premium on living a great life. While my research is not scientific, I know that you are somebody who is kind, who looks for the good in others and who provides motivation and inspiration for the people you come in contact with daily.

While it’s easy to give that love and compassion externally, sometimes it’s difficult to extend that same kindness to ourselves.

We are all guilty of it. We look in the mirror and think about how we could look better. We go to work and think that the job we did could have been better. We come home and think the house could be cleaner. Throughout the day, we say things to ourselves that we would never say to a loved one, a colleague or even a total stranger.

Yesterday, we had a yoga class after school run by a teacher for teachers. She talked about self-care and about the importance of teachers taking time for themselves so that they can have the energy they need for others.

She’s right. Not just for teachers. We all need to take care of ourselves and it starts with the words we use and the conversations we have that stay in our heads and are directed internally.

Today, make sure that you extend the same kindness you do to others to yourself. Compliment yourself like you would stranger, friend or family member. If you find yourself criticizing, STOP. Replace the critical thought with something kind. Make an effort to notice all that is good about you and tell yourself how good it is. It’s not conceit. It’s compassion and you deserve it as much as anybody. #SelfCare #HappyFix
