There’s a quote from the movie Bull Durham that my family loves. “Don’t think. You can only hurt the ball club.”
A lot of times I overthink things. I mull decisions for days. Weeks even. The best decisions I’ve ever made have come from a place deeper than my brain. They come from the gut.
When my kids were getting ready to take tests in school, I always told them to trust your gut. Go with your first answer and don’t change it unless you made a careless error.
It’s hard to live like that and to make decisions in that way. We get caught up in the “What if…” game. What if something better comes along and I’m already committed to this? What if I make a mistake choosing this? The fact is, not deciding is also a choice. It means you are good with the status quo. You are good living in your comfort zone.
The problem is extraordinary things rarely happen in your comfort zone. Mostly they happen when you step outside of it. You know. That time when you trust your gut and you make that decision that may not make sense in the moment but you trust yourself enough to know that it will be what’s best for you.
Today, when faced with a decision, go with your gut. Know that you can trust your intuition. Know that trusting it is trusting yourself and having confidence that you would never steer you wrong. Don’t think. You can only hurt the ball club. #HappyFix #SelfCare#BullDurham
